Certified Hearings Commissioner
Peter Wilson is a highly experienced New Zealand planner with over 20 years' experience across land use zoning, property development, freshwater management, and conservation planning across Canterbury and Christchurch regions. He has worked extensively within central and local government, NGOs, as well as in private consultancy, and brings a deep understanding of Canterbury Council processes, statutory decision-making, policy intent, and implementation in practice.
Peter has led and contributed to complex, multi-disciplinary projects involving planning, ecology, engineering, legal, and economic inputs across Canterbury, and is known for his ability to integrate technical evidence into clear, robust planning assessments for property development and infill subdivision projects.
As a Certified Hearings Commissioner, Peter has a strong appreciation of evidential standards, procedural fairness, and the realities of regulatory decision-making in Canterbury and Christchurch. His advice is pragmatic, defensible, and focused on achieving workable outcomes within New Zealand's planning and environmental management system.
Whilst Peter is technically skilled at land assessments, resource consent applications and Canterbury Council systems, his primary skill is in assisting and backing you with the intricacies and challenges of Council processes when things get tough or unexpected.
